Award-winning Scholar Olga Hawn Named New Center for Sustainable Enterprise Faculty Director

The Center for Sustainable Enterprise, an affiliate of the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise, is welcoming a new leader, as faculty director Albert Segars steps down after 14 years at the helm.

UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship and Sustainability Distinguished Fellow Olga Hawn will begin her new directorship role just as the center gears up to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2019.

Hawn has earned multiple awards for her work at the intersection of strategy and organization theory, business and society. Most recently, she received the 2018 ONE Emerging Scholar Award from the Academy of Management’s Organizations and the Natural Environment (ONE) Division. In 2014, she was a finalist for the Haynes Prize for the Most Promising Scholar Under 40 from the Academy of International Business. Hawn’s research has been published in such top academic outlets as Research Policy, the Strategic Management Journal, the Academy of Management Journal and the Academy of Management Review.

Hawn attained a doctorate degree in business administration from Duke University, a master’s degree in management research from Saïd Business School at Oxford University, and a master’s degree in international business and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. Prior to joining UNC Kenan-Flagler, she taught strategy and policy at Boston University.
“Corporate sustainability is one of the top business issues today, and the Center for Sustainable Enterprise has been a leader in this space for nearly two decades,” said Greg Brown, director of the Kenan Institute. “Professor Hawn has the passion, expertise, and experience to continue the outstanding work of the center into the next decade and beyond, and I look forward to working with her.”

The Center for Sustainable Enterprise, in affiliation with the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise, assembles and shares thought leadership in research, education and best practice.
